POP UP #13: SUNDAY SUPPERS AT THE CHEESE STORE - Hello Wild Thing's

Join us for a pop up Dinner on the 21st of August. A playful, imaginative, and magical menu created by guest Chef Mirella Hinojosa-Segura inspired by the book Where the Wild Things Are. We will close our doors and usher in some wild guests for an intimate, delicious evening.  In every course you will find the secret ingredient, cheese! 

Chef Mirella is a native San Diegan. She currently resides at our neighbors restaurant, Ironside Fish & Oyster Bar as the Lead Line Cook. The theme for this pop up was inspired by her four children. She grew up with a large extended family, social gatherings were frequent and filled with yummy things to eat. She learned to appreciate the power of a home cooked meal. 

Segura attended culinary school at Grossmont College and learned how passionate she was about cooking and loved the craziness of the professional kitchen. She was mentored by the Director of the culinary program, Chef Joe Orate, and he helped her get her first job in a professional kitchen. She worked on the 5th floor of The Del Mar Race Track for 3 seasons. Cooking for the directors room and the executive boxes.

 Chef Mirella worked at Arterra in the Carmel Valley Marriott for almost 4 years where she worked her way up to Sous Chef, responsible for a newly upgraded pool bar menu and evening room service. 

Working long hours and being a single mother, she needed a change. She interviewed at the newly opened Grand Del Mar with Chef Jason McLeod. She was hired as an AM Lead Line cook. In her 5 years of working at the Grand, she got married, had three more bundles of joy, and had the opportunity to work in 5 of the 7 kitchens at The Grand Del Mar. 

After taking 2 years off to stay home and care for her 4 children, she was ready to get back into a professional kitchen. Chef Jason McLeod was looking to open Ironside Fish and Oyster and she was hired as an AM Lead Line Cook. 

"My two years at Ironside have been a blast! I've had the opportunity to work with guest chefs, mentor young cooks, work awesome events, compete in food battles, and make some awesome food.
